Motherhood changes one’s life forever. New priorities come into place one’s you welcome your little one. It is likely that most your time would revolve around your baby, like putting the baby to sleep, feeding the baby, playing with the baby and so on. But it is very important to care for yourself as you do for your newborn.
After delivery you need to take good care of yourself to rebuild your strength. The postpartum period is nearly 6 to 8 weeks after childbirth and is the time taken by the body to return to pre pregnant state. During this time your body will go through several changes both emotionally and physically which will mainly include adjusting to motherhood. It also involves adjusting to new routines, understanding the babies’ needs etc. But even while going through all these you should not forget to look after yourself.
Take rest whenever possible
Babies have different time clocks than adults. They need to be fed and comforted time to time and also cry often. So, it is likely that you will very little time to relax. Sleep whenever the baby sleeps and rest whenever possible. Also try not to be tensed during this time period because emotional wellbeing is equally important.
Have nutritious food
Eating healthy is vital in order to recover from changes the body has undergone during pregnancy and childbirth. Eating nutritious food will provide energy to take care of your baby. The diet should include grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy products and protein. Along will balanced diet you should drink lots of fluids. Exercise should also be included but should be done only as advised by your doctor.
Get help to complete household chores
Babies need constant care and hence looking after them requires lot of time and energy. This will leave you with very little time to complete household responsibilities. You will also be probably be exhausted and sleep deprived. So, get help from friends, family or paid home provider so can tend to your babies’ needs and also take care of yourself. Motherhood is a journey and to keep moving forward you need to keep building strength. So, make sure you take care of yourself as much as you take care of your little one.
